Pam Coleman

   

Pam Coleman is the Founder/Owner of Acton Academy Charleston located in Charleston, South Carolina. Acton Academy Charleston is a learner-driven (vs. teacher-centered) elementary school that will grow into a K-12. Her education journey included earning an MBA from New York University and a Masters in Education. She has worked in educational sales and has taught history and English. Pam’s experience as a historic interpreter led her to the Stamford History Center where she served as Chairman of the Board of Directors (among other duties) for many years. 
 
Ms. Coleman was happily retired in Charleston, SC when she started looking for the best schooling options for her granddaughter.  It soon became apparent to Pam and her daughter that modern education has not changed to meet the needs of the 21st century. Pam’s passion for learning ignited her search for innovative methods and schools. Acton Academy’s focus on child-motivated learning, character development and real-world skill-building inspired her to open an Acton Affiliate in Charleston to benefit her granddaughter and families in her community searching for a non-traditional private school.

Acton Academy Charleston’s mission is that each person who enters the school’s doors will be inspired to find a calling that will change the world.  Everyone at Acton Academy Charleston believes that we need to view life as a Hero’s Journey. Failure is seen as a learning experience and children at Acton value traits such as resilience, peaceful conflict resolution, kindness and gratitude. Ideal Client

They are looking to find families who are seeking a better way for children to learn in the 21st century. They are currently accepting children ages 5 - 11 and offer rolling enrollment during the academic year. The ideal Acton Academy parents are entrepreneurs or out-of-the-box thinkers. They want their children to be independent, adaptable, curious and capable of mastering new skills as needed. Their ideal parents believe in freedom and responsibility and are working to instill the elements of a strong character in their children.

Families that have flexible schedules, who travel, or who have children that may need to miss school due to competitions appreciate our model of learner-driven education. We do not have homework or tests, so there is plenty of time outside of school hours for children to pursue their passions.

Pam's clients typically live in West Ashley, James Island, the Charleston Peninsula and North Charleston. They also attract interested families from Johns Island, Mount Pleasant, Summerville, Ladson, Goose Creek and any location within a 30 - 40 minute drive of our West Ashley school.  Most of their parents are 30 - 45 years old and have a household income of $75,000+/year. Pam enjoys working with parents who are lifelong learners and who understand growth mindset and are willing to let their children fail in order to learn.
